How overdue status works
Lenders classify overdue accounts as Special Mention Accounts (SMA) and Non-Performing Assets (NPA). An account moves back to standard only when all overdue amounts — principal, interest, and charges — are fully paid.
Example
If a weekly installment due on 1 March is unpaid, the account is SMA-0 from 2 March, SMA-1 from 1 April, SMA-2 from 1 May, and NPA from 31 May. This status is reported to credit bureaus.
